Common

(Fall 2022)

Iconic Chicago rapper, actor and visionary, Common (formerly known as Common Sense), came on the scene in 1992, placing his city on the map during the golden age of Hip Hop. His major success transpired however in 2000, with his ongoing collaborations with legendary J Dilla and the Soulquarians (James Poyser, Questlove, J Dilla and D’Angelo). Like Water for Chocolate placed him in the eyes of the world.

But it’s his groundbreaking  Afrofuturist opus, Electric Circus that still has connoisseurs and music enthusiasts praising its magic. The album features Prince, Mary J Blige, Erykah Badu, Pharrell, Jill Scott, Ceelo Green, Stereolab, Omar, Bilal with production by The Soulquarians and The Neptunes.

(This series of video includes full Common interview, Questlove, Jill Scott and James Poyser, giving their stories on the creation of the album.)
