Patrice rushen

(Winter 2024)

From Patrice Rushen’s 1973 Prelude Records jazz debut, Prelusion (at 17yrs old!), where she gained the respect of her peers and mentors including Quincy Jones, George Duke and Herbie Hancock, to breaking into the pop charts in with the Grammy nominated and heavily sampled, Forget Me Nots and Haven’t You Heard to becoming the first woman to musical direct the Grammys, Emmys and Janet Jackson’s Janet tour, her ability to continue to break new ground is extraordinary.

Commanding the keyboards and synths within the jazz world, pop world and film / television world makes her not only one of the most sought after collaborators but also composers.

Composing for films and also orchestras including the Philharmonic and Detroit Symphony Orchestra, while flexing her classical training roots.

As a professor at USC and on the board at Berklee College of Music, she has been passing down the knowledge to the new generation.

Lastly, it’s pretty wild for her to also be a viral sensation on TikTok with the iconic dance hashtag for #ForgetMeNots again pushing the pop culture lexicon.
